Self-Care for Migraines

If you've never experienced a migraine, consider yourself lucky. Migraines can be extremely painful and can negatively impact a person's everyday life. Luckily, however, there are a few steps you can take to alleviate symptoms of migraines.

When you first notice migraine symptoms, you should try to make your environment as calm as possible. Try the following:
  • Go to a dark room to relax. If possible, you should try to get some sleep.
  • Make sure you are in a quiet location.
  • Apply either hot or cold compresses to your forehead or to you neck to ease pain and tension. You might find that a hot bath also helps.
  • Drink a small amount of a caffeinated drink. However, be careful not to drink too much caffeine, as this can cause your headache to worsen.

we tried amethyst mats..acupuncture...massage...cranial massage...narcotics...the regular group of new treatments for migraine...3 neurologists...we have been at this with our 19 year old son for the last 3 years...now we have employed a chiropractor, with some success. He may simply be out-growing them. No one knows.
